It is an exciting time when your child is ready to begin kindergarten. We in Kettering Schools are equally excited to welcome new FIREBIRDS to the fold!
Transitioning to kindergarten is a big milestone for you and your child. Our caring and professional staff will work in partnership with you to make this important year of your child's academic career as successful as possible.
Kindergarten registration for Kettering children will begin on Monday, February 13, and continue through Friday, February 17. Registration will take place at the Board of Education/D.L. Barnes Building, 3750 Far Hills Avenue, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with extended hours from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 16. When registering your child, you will also set up an appointment for his/her readiness screening, to take place in mid-late March.
Children who are five years old ON OR BEFORE July 31st of this year are eligible to register for and attend kindergarten.*
We urge you to register if your child is age-appropriate.
When you register, please bring the following documents:
* Birth certificate
* Parent/Guardian ID
* Immunization records
* Proof of Kettering residency (Renters: complete signed rental or lease agreement with a DP&L or Vectren bill. Homeowners: mortgage statement, deed or tax statement.)
* Complete, time-stamped custody papers if applicable (divorce or legal separation)
* IEP (if applicable)
* ETR (if applicable)
If you have questions about Kindergarten Registration, please feel free to contact your elementary building, Central Registration (499-1700) or Student Services (499-1422).

* Please note: The cutoff date of July 31 for kindergarten registration is different from in year's past, when the date was September 30. Extensive research has shown that delaying kindergarten for one year significantly reduces inattention and hyperactivity in a typical child. Likewise, delaying kindergarten for just one year has positive academic outcomes, including a reduced chance that a child will have to repeat the third grade (or be reading below level at third grade) and improved math and reading scores when a child reaches the 10th grade.
