Kettering to Host 'National A Capella Festival

Deke Sharon, the vocal producer of the smash hit movies “Pitch Perfect” and “Pitch Perfect 2,” starring Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson, will serve as Master of Ceremonies for two great concerts to be held on Friday, November 10, and Saturday, November 11, as part of the annual Kettering National A Capella Festival.

Sharon is heralded as “The Father of Contemporary A Capella,” having created the dense vocal instrumental sound of a capella while in college and subsequently spreading the sound – and its booming popularity – around the world.

Friday’s concert, set for 7:30 p.m., will feature an academic showcase of eight high school a capella groups and Freedom’s Boombox, a vocal trio that sings pop music with beatboxing and harmony.

Sharon will also MC Saturday’s concert, featuring VoicePlay performing with Fairmont’s own Eleventh Hour and Fusion groups. VoicePlay, is a nationally renowned a capella quintet that competed on the fourth season of the NBC hit show, “The Sing Off” and

brings a special blend of highly entertaining humor, style, amazing sound and theatrics to the stage. Saturday’s concert will begin at 7 p.m., and both concerts will be held in the Trent Arena, located on the Kettering Fairmont High School campus.
