Procedures for School Delays and Closings on ‘Calamity’ Days

In the event that weather or some other “calamity” would make it unsafe to transport students to and from school, the Kettering City School District will delay or close school, dependent upon the weather forecast for that day. If there is a need to delay or close school, the following procedures will be followed:

DELAYS:

The Kettering City Schools typically will delay school for a period of two hours when the forecast indicates that weather conditions will improve through the morning. If school is delayed for two hours, school will begin at the following times:

Fairmont High School – 9:50 a.m.

Middle Schools  --  10:40 a.m.

Elementary Schools (grades 1-5) – 10:15 a.m.

Plan “B” Kindergarten:

Students in the “AM” (morning) Kindergarten program will go to class from 10:15 to 11:50 a.m.  Transported students will be picked up two hours later than their regularly scheduled pick-up time. Students will be dropped off at their regular bus stop, one hour later than their regularly scheduled drop-off time.

Students in the “PM” (afternoon) Kindergarten program will go to class from 12:55 to 2:30 p.m. Transported students will be picked up one hour later than their regularly scheduled pick-up time. Students will be dropped off at their regular bus stop at the regularly scheduled drop-off time.

Kids Club AM Kids Club begins at 10:15 a.m. and PM Kids Club begins at 11:55 a.m.

Integrated Preschool Programs:  Morning preschool is CANCELED. Afternoon preschool will begin at 12:15 p.m.

Pathfinders Preschool: Morning preschool begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 1:30 p.m.

KECEC:  Daycare opens at 9 a.m.

BEFORE-SCHOOL CHILDCARE IN KCS BUILDINGS – Before-school childcare will begin at the regular time, 6:45 a.m., when the district is on a 2-hour delay. If school subsequently closes, parents/guardians will be notified and must arrange to pick up their child within 30 minutes of being notified.

CLOSINGS:

All classes for students on Pre-K-12 are canceled.

There will be NO CHILDCARE provided when school is closed.
