Superintendent
Dear Kettering Parents, Students, Community Members and Web Site Visitors:

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new Interim Superintendent of Kettering City Schools. Over the course of 30 years in education, I have served as a teacher, athletic director, middle school principal, high school assistant and building principal, district transportation supervisor, and director of curriculum and instruction. Last spring, I was fortunate to be selected as the Ohio Principal of the Year. I am looking forward to working with the Board of Education, teachers, staff members, parents, and community members to continue this district’s fine tradition of excellence.

I love Kettering; it is a vibrant, dynamic community. The Kettering School System has always been a critical cornerstone of this showcase city. I intend to work very hard to continue this highly successful city/school relationship.

Welcome to the Kettering City School District’s web site. It is our hope that you find this site informative, helpful and interesting. We are extremely proud of our school district and look upon this site as yet another opportunity to share with you all the great things that make the Kettering Schools such an excellent place to educate young people.

As our students move through the lower grades, into middle school and toward the high school and, ultimately, graduation, our excellent staff works hard to prepare our students for success.

From the time our students enter elementary school, they are exposed to strong academic experiences in mathematics, language arts, social studies, Science, and technology. Every elementary student in the district also participates in music, art and physical education and these “specials” – coupled with outstanding academic offerings – serve as an important foundation for the educational opportunities they will have at the middle and high school levels.

At the secondary level, our students choose from among more than 200 course offerings and more than 80 athletic extracurricular opportunities, giving them a well-rounded education that will carry them well into the future.

Kettering is a large, diverse, contemporary suburban school district, and we work hard every day to meet the challenges and celebrate the many successes that are a “part of life” here in our district.

As always, we look forward to working together this year with our parents and the many members of the Kettering community who are so supportive of our schools and our students. If you are new to the Kettering area and the Kettering Schools, “welcome!” And if you are considering a move to our fine community, we hope you will have the chance to take a look at all that our district and our community have to offer.

A public school system is only as good as the strength of its partnership with parents, students, city government and community members. As superintendent of the Kettering City Schools, it is with great pride that I note that we continue to live up to our motto of “Good Schools * Good Community” here in Kettering – because this unique partnership is so strong.

Feel free to contact me at 499-1430 or our Community Relations coordinator, Kari Basson, at 499-1458 or kari.basson@ketteringschools.org if you have any questions regarding the Kettering Schools.
