The two charities chosen by the USB to receive donations are Habitat for Humanity and the Kettering Backpack Program.
Habitat for Humanity is building its first-ever house in Kettering for a family currently living in a Kettering apartment. The family has five children who are attending John F. Kennedy Elementary School and Kettering Middle School.
The Kettering Backpack Program was a Kettering Leadership Academy initiative created to specifically help students in our school district. The program identifies elementary students who qualify for free lunch during the week and may need food for the weekend. Each Friday these students are given a bag of easy-to-prepare, nutritious food items that they carry home in their backpack. (Food items that are packed for the children include single-serving-sized cans and packs of fruit, applesauce, vegetables, ravioli, juice and milk, granola bars, etc).
Fairmont students will be planning a variety of events and activities to raise money for the 2009 Spirit Chain, and we'll post information about these activities here
to our website.
The students are also happy to accept any donations to the Spirit Chain. Please see the link below for the donation form. If you or your business is interested in getting more involved with Spirit Chain or has any questions about Spirit Chain activities, please email Fairmont's Student Activities Coordinator Jenny Borchers at jenny.borchers@ketteringschools.org.
