Hi, I teach 8th grade Social Studies at Van Buren Middle School.  This is my 19th year teaching at Van Buren and my 27th year teaching total.  I have also taught in Trotwood City Schools, Miamisburg City Schools, and Marysville Exempted Village Schools.  Of my 2 years of teaching experience, 24 of those have been spent teaching 8th grade.  I love the age group and have a lot of fun teaching.

I believe that knowing the past helps us understand the present and prepare for the future.  I feel my job, as an American History teacher, is to help prepare my students to be productive and responsible citizens of our city, state, country, and world.  In addition to learning American History we focus on the “Six Building Blocks of Good Character”: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.   I attempt to make history come alive by planning interactive lessons.  Another focus is to provide opportunities for students to learn how to work together as a team to complete a task.  Working effectively in a group is a 21st Century Skill that needs to be practiced.

On a personal note I am a native of the Miami Valley who grew up in Miamisburg.  I earned my undergraduate degree from Wright State University and also returned to Wright State to complete my Master’s Degree in Teacher Leadership.  I am married.  My husband Joe and I have two children, Cole and Kayla.
