Aug. 2016

Hello!  My name is Janis Combs.  I teach music at Oakview Elementary and am Assistant Director of the 7th and 8th Grade Chorus at Van Buren Middle School.  I have taught music for 23 years, this being my 20th year teaching at Oakview, and 9th year at Van Buren. I have also previously taught in Beavercreek and Wilmington.

I was born in Greenville, Ohio, where I grew up on a dairy farm. I have found that some of those farm stories come in handy during my music lessons at Oakview--especially since Kettering students have had little if any contact with aspects of life on the farm.

I am married, and my husband and I will celebrate our 44th wedding anniversary in September. We have two grown sons, one in Louisville and the other in Centerville. Being empty nesters, my husband and I thoroughly enjoy the companionship of our two puppies, Gus and Gracie.

I received my Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Wright State University and Master of Science in Education & Allied Professions from the University of Dayton.  In addition to teaching in the public school, I have been a Kindermusik instructor, children's music ministry director, church choir director, and am a published songwriter and author.

Hopefully this website will help students and parents stay connected to what's going on in the music room at Oakview as well as be aware of upcoming music events.

Thanks for visiting, and by all means . . .

"Stay Tuned!"

~Mrs. Combs
