WELCOME!
Amy Plassenthal (Mrs. P)
Indian Riffle Elementary
Preschool Intervention Specialist
amy.plassenthal@ketteringschools.org

My name is Mrs. Amy Plassenthal. I’m a Preschool Intervention Specialist at Indian Riffle Elementary. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and Endorsement in Preschool Special Needs from the University of Dayton. I also hold an Early Childhood Intervention Specialist License, Preschool-3rd Grade.  I have been a Preschool Intervention Specialist at Indian Riffle since August 2008.

I enjoy every opportunity to spend time with my family, especially my two nephews. I also like to play tennis, travel, read, go for walks/hike, bake, and of course, spend time in my classroom! :)

I have two full-time paraprofessionals in my classroom, Mrs. Kristen Hall and Mrs. Joan Bale!

Mrs. Kristen Hall is a paraprofessional in our classroom.  Before she came to preschool, Mrs. Hall worked at Kettering Middle School as a Special Education Classroom Aide. She and her husband are involved in Firebirds Football. She is a Youth Sport Coordinator and Team Mom. She has two boys of her own and they are involved in sports within the Kettering City School District.

Mrs. Joan Bale is also a paraprofessional in our classroom. Before she came to preschool, Mrs. Bale worked in the Community-Based Program at Kettering Middle for 15 years. She and her husband are also Special Olympics coaches for Kettering Schools. She has been married for 35 years and has 3 grown children. She also has 3 young grandsons!

For students that receive bus services, the phone number for transportation is 499-1770 (Todd Silverthorn is the Director).

How to communicate: You can contact me through e-mail, phone or through your child’s communication folder.

Room # 499-2830, Office # 499-1720.

E-mail: amy.plassenthal@ketteringschools.org

Students will have a folder that goes home every day. Please check it daily.

Dawn Potter is the preschool coordinator, her number is 499-1536.

Emergency numbers are extremely important; if any numbers change, please let us AND the office know, so we can update them immediately!

A newsletter will go home at the end of each week telling you what we’ve been up to in our classroom!

We will be keeping a portfolio for your child throughout the school year! Please send in a 2” or larger binder for us to use! Their portfolio will contain picture and work samples taken from different projects/activities throughout the year. You will get to take it home a few weeks before the end of the school year.

Our preschool maintains the Ohio Department of Education Early Learning and Development Standards in All Essential Domains of School Readiness. The Early Learning Common Core Content Standards describe essential concepts and skills for young children. The Essential Domains are Social and Emotional Development, Approaches Toward Learning, Physical Well-Being and Motor Development, Cognition and General Knowledge (Math, Science & Social Studies) and Language and Literacy Development, Please visit the Ohio Department of Education’s website for a full overview of the standards: http://education.ohio.gov/
