Welcome to Room 310! I am very excited to be a seventh grade English/Language Arts teacher at KMS. As an ELA teacher, it is my priority to provide every student an opportunity to succeed and to become more knowledgeable, confident, and enthusiastic in his or her reading and writing skills. In addition, my classroom is a place where students learn more about themselves, their peers, and what it means to have high character and integrity. The lessons students learn and skills they develop in my classroom will be able to be applied to their everyday life. In class this year, students will be challenged to be critical thinkers, to provide details in their writing, to participate, and to try their absolute best!
I believe it is essential for students to know about their teacher and who they are as a person. So, here you go…I am married to my beautiful wife Danielle, who is a sign language interpreter in the Dayton area. I also have a black boxer/lab/pit mix whose name is Rudy (from the movie). He’s a blast! Not only do I live in Kettering, but I also grew up here and went to middle school at KMS! I have always loved sports and played football, basketball, and baseball during my time at KMS. While attending Fairmont High School, I played baseball and ran cross-country, was the editor for the school newspaper The Flyer, and developed a passion for the subjects of English/Language Arts.
I continued my education at Ohio University, where I had the unique opportunity of pursuing a lifelong dream of studying abroad in Great Britain. For five months I studied at the University of Wales Swansea where I took English classes, played on a school soccer team, developed relationships with local people, and traveled throughout Europe. I even made my way to Australia! In addition to traveling to those places, when I was in middle school and high school I served on mission trips with my church to Mexico, Bolivia, and Guatemala. I love learning about different cultures and hearing about where my students have traveled!
In addition, I love to do anything outdoors, from yard work to hiking. I am an avid fan of all professional sports teams in Michigan and, of course, that also extends to the Michigan Wolverines. Go Blue!
In my ELA class, it is my goal to actively engage students with the curriculum by providing a student-centered, open, creative environment. It is my aim to extend young minds to think critically, deeply, and with insight. Middle school is a vital time in a child's life, and I love being able to be a part of it!
