About Your Teacher
My name is Heather McManus and this is my tenth year teaching in Kettering City Schools. I have been with Kettering City Schools for 12 years. I currently hold two teaching certificates 7-12 Integrated Secondary Social Studies and most recently PreK-3rd grade. I taught high school Government and U.S. History in Springboro. I then went on to teach Kids club for two years at Indian Riffle, which was an extended day kindergarten program. From there, I was at Oakview Elementary School as the Title 1 reading teacher with 1st and 2nd grade. I came back to Indian Riffle and taught first grade for six years and loved it. I moved to third grade a year ago and have found that I also love it. I received my Bachelor’s Degree from Miami University and received my 2nd license and my Masters Degree from Antioch University McGregor.
I believe in an active approach to learning with direct instruction, teacher modeling, and individual practice. We will work in both large and small groups. I will do my best to individualize your child’s work as much as possible to meet their specific learning needs. I expect all children to work cooperatively together (as we learn from each other), listen to one another, as well as myself, and participate fully in all class activities to the best of their ability. I also hope to challenge your child to work beyond their comfort level so they may excel in their areas of strengths and build up the areas they may be weak in. I look forward to having your child in my class this year.
