Paddle Auction to Benefit 'Kettering Clean Care'

Lots of great items will be up for grabs at the Kettering Clean Care Paddle Auction, to be held on February 6, beginning at 6 p.m., at the Moraine Civic Center.

Kettering Clean Care began with a Van Buren Middle School teacher who found there were middle school students in need of personal care products.

With the support of members of the Kettering Leadership Academy Class of 2014, the Dor-Wood Optimist Club, and the Junior Optimist Clubs at Van Buren and Kettering middle schools, KCC works to provide middle school students with a monthly delivery of personal care products (toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, deodorant, etc.)

Proceeds from the Paddle Auction will benefit KCC.

Beavertown Named a 'School of Promise'

Congratulations to Beavertown Elementary School, which has been recognized as a 2014 "School of Promise" by the Ohio Department of Education.

Beavertown Principal, Mike Kozarec and his staff and students hosted State Superintendent of Instruction Dr. Richard Ross and Ohio School Board Vice President Tom Gunlock for a visit to the school October 29th, where Dr. Ross announced that Beavertown is one of only 98 schools across the state to earn the "School of Promise" designation.

In his comments during the assembly, Dr. Ross acknowledged that he was impressed by the attendance of parents, board members, city leaders and business leaders - in addition to the students and staff members --  who were all on-hand to see the unveiling of Beavertown's "School of Promise" banner. "It is wonderful to see parents and teachers here and to have such great representation from your city and from your board of education," noted Dr. Ross. "When you have this kind of community support, you are going to have successful schools."
