Visiting Artist’s Creativity on Display at Orchard Park

OP Cafeteria Mural

If you have the opportunity, you will want to stop by Orchard Park Elementary School to see the amazing paintings by visiting artist, Doug Hoch. Hoch, whose eclectic career includes teaching art classes at his studio in upstate New York, visiting school children to encourage their inner creativity, illustrating children’s books, tattooing and body painting and fine art oil painting, is a long-time friend of Orchard Park MMLC coordinator, Heather Cone.

When Orchard Park principal Micki Ambrose asked her staff last spring if anyone knew an artist who could paint a Firebird mural in the school’s cafeteria, Cone said she would check with her old friend Doug Hoch. Hoch traveled to Kettering last summer to create the Firebird mural in three days. Although he doesn’t typically travel as far as Kettering, Ohio to do school visits, Hoch again said “yes” when Cone asked if he would be willing to come to the school, work the students and create paintings in the library and hallways.
