Today, November 13, is World Kindness Day…the objectives of this day is to raise awareness, share ideas and projects of kindness programs worldwide.  World Kindness Day wants to highlight good deeds in the community, focusing on the positive power and the common thread of kindness that binds us…

Remember, anyone can be kind, we are all very capable.  Being kind is good for everyone and studies have shown that kindness has many physical, emotions and mental health benefits.
As you go about the day, think about the word kind, is it hugely important and the focus of the day….but let’s make it a big part of every single day..

As Mister Rogers shared…”There are three ways to ultimate success.  The first way is to be kind.  The second way is to be kind.  The third way is to be kind.”

"Imagine what our real neighborhoods would be like if each of us offered, as a matter of course, just one kind word to another person”- Mr. Rogers

Kindness….the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate.  This is an act that should be apart of our everyday lives...As Aesop said, “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.

Tomorrow, November 13 is World Kindness Day...A global 24-hour celebration dedicated to paying-it-forward and focusing on the good. Kindness Day first began when a collection of humanitarian groups from several nations, now known as the World Kindness Movement, united on November 13, 1997 and made a “Declaration of Kindness.

It can be something as simple as holding the door for others, or letting them know that you appreciate them, be it by written note, text, call, or in person.  helping a neighbor by raking their leaves, taking someone feeling down or donating to one of your favorite non-profit organizations.  Or it can be a larger commitment, like finding a charity in need of volunteers and signing up.
Kindness is contagious and it’s free, it can be easy and it is important.  Think about how you may highlight World Kindness Day with a simple act….

From Student Council:
Today we observe Veteran’s Day.

Veteran’s Day began after World War I to recognize those who served our country.  In 1921, an unknown World War I American soldier was buried in Arlington National Cemetery.  The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, on a hillside overlooking Washington, D.C. became the focal point of reverence for America’s veterans.  Similar ceremonies occurred in England and France.

These memorial gestures all took place on November 11, giving universal recognition to the celebrated ending of World War I fighting at 11 a.m., November 11, 1918 (the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month).

Realizing that peace is preserved by ALL veterans, Congress requested to make this a day to honor those who have served America in ALL wars.  In 1954 President Eisenhower signed a bill proclaiming November 11 as Veteran’s Day.

KMS would like to recognize and honor our KMS veterans:

Mr. Jeff Hysinger
Mrs. Theresa Thompson
Mr. Scott Helms
Mrs. Krista Berning
Mr. Jeff Duncan
And Mr. Jim Davis

Thank you sincerely for your service to our great country!

From Mr. Snyder:
Reminder that Early Dismissal has been changed to tomorrow instead of Wednesday.

Today is Veteran’s Day.  To all of our staff members who are veterans, we are grateful for your service. Thank You!

Today’s theme is  “Stand Together Against Bullying and Drugs.” Wear Red, White and Blue Day.

Today’s Red Ribbon announcement is: Although many people smoke because they believe cigarettes calm their nerves, smoking releases epinephrine, a hormone which creates physiological stress in the smoker, rather than relaxation. Cigarette smoking is perhaps the most devastating preventable cause of disease and premature death. Smoking is particularly dangerous for teens because their bodies are still developing and changing. The 4,000 chemicals (including 200 known poisons) in cigarette smoke can adversely affect this process. One-third of young people who are just "experimenting" end up being addicted by the time they are 20. These are reasons why it is so important to be drug free!
Thank you for participating in the Red Ribbon Week theme days this week. Choosing to be drug free is safe, responsible and respectful!

Today’s theme is “Be on a Drug Free Team Day!” We are wearing our favorite team wear today!

This week is Red Ribbon Week. All week long we will have announcements, theme days and advisory activities. Today’s Red Ribbon announcement is: Inhalants refer to substances that are sniffed or huffed to give the user an immediate head rush or high. They include a diverse group of chemicals that are found in consumer products such as aerosols and cleaning solvents. Inhalant use can cause a number of physical and emotional problems, including hallucinations, mood swings, numbness of the hands and feet, and even one-time use can result in death. These reasons are why it is so important to be drug free!

Don't forget October is Bullying Prevention Month!
Everyone knows that bullying situations involve the student who is targeted and the student who does the bullying.  Did you also know that many situations involve bystanders - students who aren’t involved directly but see what’s happening?  Bystanders are powerful.  In fact, more than half of bullying situations will end if bystanders step in. Take a stand and make bullying history today!

From Mrs. Cogan:
Good Morning KMS!

It’s time to send in your BOX TOPS. We are having our October Box Top Competition.
The Advisory that sends in the most BOX TOPS by Friday October 25th will win Donuts!

This will probably be the last year that we can have a contest like this, because BOX TOPS for Education has changed the way we can earn money for our school.  Their packages now have a new Box Top label that you don’t trim.  People just need to download the Box Top mobile App, add KMS as their school, scan their receipt and it will digitally add Box Tops to our school’s earnings.

The traditional pink BOX TOPS like this one (show picture) are still out there and that’s what we will be collecting for the October contest. Please cut out the little pink BOX TOPS and bring them to your advisory teacher.  Our contest will run for the next 3 weeks. The Advisory that sends in the most BOX TOPS by Friday October 25th will win Donuts!

The money that is earned will help with some of the expenses of the Community Based program field trips throughout the year.

Thank you for all your support with this KMS!
