Calamity Day Notifications

The district makes every attempt to communicate with our families in a timely manner when we have to delay or close school because of bad weather through our district webpage and Facebook page (Kettering City Schools.)

The district uses The Education Connection to call and/or text when there is a school delay or closing.  Parents/guardians/students MUST OPT-IN EACH SCHOOL YEAR using this link to receive these types of notifications.

Childcare

The Dayton YMCA offers Before- and After-School Childcare Services for KCS students in each of our elementary buildings. Please visit the YMCA School-Age Programs website for additional information and to register your child for childcare services. * Scroll down to "KETTERING" under "YMCA School Age Child Care Locations" to access information specific to KCS-based childcare services.

Community Input on Grant Funding

The Kettering City Schools will hold a public meeting on the use of Federal funds on Thursday, October
3, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. in the Board Room, 3rd Floor, 500 Lincoln Park Blvd.

The district receives funds through the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW) via the
Consolidated Continuous Improvement Plan (CCIP) that are called Title funds or Elementary and
Secondary Education Act (ESEA) funds. Monies received through these funds are used to provide
financial assistance to the district and schools with high percentages of children from low-income
families to make sure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. Monies are also
received through IDEA-B (Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act) and are used to
provide special education services to students with identified disabilities, ages 3-21.

Kettering City Schools is required to provide equitable services to private schools for certain federal
funds. Timely consultation with private school officials enables Kettering City Schools to provide
effective programs for eligible private school children, teachers, and families.

The district welcomes the general public and parents/guardians of the children enrolled to provide input
regarding the use of these funds at the meeting. Comments may also be sent to Dan VonHandorf,
Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, or Aaron Horton, Supervisor of Special Education
Services at 500 Lincoln Park Blvd. You may also email input to: dan.vonhandorf@ketteringschool.org or
aaron.horton@ketteringschool.org.

PowerSchool Data Breach Information

Dear Firebird Families and Staff,

We are reaching out to provide an update on information we have received from PowerSchool, our Student Information System (SIS) provider, regarding its recent cybersecurity incident.

PowerSchool has partnered with Experian, a trusted credit monitoring agency, to offer complimentary identity protection and credit monitoring services to all students and educators involved in the data breach — regardless of whether their Social Security Number was compromised.

You can also find more details and instructions on activating these services at PowerSchool’s website:  www.powerschool.com/security/sis-incident/notice-of-united-states-data-breach/

Additionally, PowerSchool has worked with Experian to establish a dedicated, toll-free call center to answer any questions. You can access this dedicated call center at 833-918-9464.

We appreciate PowerSchool’s response in dealing with its cybersecurity incident and protecting the confidential, personal information of individuals from its impacted districts. While we will continue to update staff, as needed, throughout the resolution of this incident, you are encouraged to contact the PowerSchool/Experian dedicated toll free number at 833-918-9464, and its website: www.powerschool.com/security/sis-incident/notice-of-united-states-data-breach/ with further questions regarding the breach, and/or the credit monitoring services being offered by Experian.

988
SUICIDE
& CRISIS LIFELINE

Those experiencing a mental health crisis, and their loved ones, can reach out to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by CALLING OR TEXTING to 988 or CHATTING ONLINE at 988Lifeline.org, 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week.

What is the 988 Lifeline?

What happens when I call 988?

What can I expect from the Crisis Worker with whom I speak?
The trained crisis worker will ask you to describe your crisis or your loved one's crisis, listen and interact with you so they can provide support and share any resources that may be helpful.
