Active U.S. Military Families -- The Kettering City School District Welcomes You!

Your Child's Next Great Adventure Awaits!

Are you an Active-Duty U.S. Military Family stationed in Ohio and exploring great school districts in the area?

The Kettering City Schools, one of the area’s most comprehensive districts, extends a warm welcome to your family and encourages you to consider our schools for your child's educational journey!

Here in the Kettering City Schools, we understand the unique experiences and challenges that come with military life. We honor the sacrifices your family makes and are dedicated to providing a supportive and enriching educational environment for your children, ensuring a smooth transition and a successful academic experience.

Why Choose Kettering City Schools for Your Military-Connected Child?

  • Proud "Purple Star" Designation: Kettering Fairmont, our flagship high school that is home to 2,400 students, is honored to be a Purple Star-designated school! While this designation sits with our high school, we are committed across our district – for our students in Pre-K through 12th grade – to supporting military-connected students and their families. Our dedication is reflected in:
  • Dedicated Military Family Liaison: We have a specific point-of-contact on staff to serve as your primary liaison, providing guidance and support for your family's unique needs
  • Tailored Resources: Our website features a dedicated page with resources specifically for military families, designed to help you navigate school transitions and access valuable support. Please visit the KCS Purple Star webpage for additional information and resources.
  • Proactive Support: We actively identify military-connected students to ensure they receive the personalized attention and support they deserve.
  • Seamless Transitions: We recognize that military families often experience frequent moves. Ohio law, effective April 9, 2025, now requires all public school districts, including Kettering, to have an open enrollment policy for children (grades K-12) of active-duty U.S. military members stationed in Ohio. This means:
  • Expanded Access: We welcome you to begin the enrollment process and have your child become a Kettering Firebird! Even if you're not living directly within our district boundaries, your child can apply for enrollment in Kettering City Schools.
  • Clear Application Process: We have a streamlined application process in place to make enrollment as straightforward as possible for your family. While acceptance depends on space availability, we're committed to guiding you through every step.
  • Transportation Support: If your child is accepted through open enrollment, we are required to provide transportation to an existing bus stop closest to your home.
  • Stability After Active Duty: Should a parent be discharged or released from active duty, your child may remain enrolled in Kettering City Schools for the remainder of that school year, providing continuity during a significant life change.
  • A Welcoming Community: Kettering is known for its strong sense of community and excellent schools. We strive to create an inclusive environment where all students feel valued, supported, and ready to learn. Our schools offer a wide range of academic programs, extracurricular activities, and dedicated staff to help every child thrive.
